• Species of flowering plant in the family Marantaceae, native to the tropical forests of Brazil
• A centered yellow trail along the underside of velvety, deep green leaves with pinkish red veins
• Certain species display a different set of colors, some characterized by dark green splotches on a light green leaf, and white veins
• Common name in reference to the leaves of the plant, and their habit of staying flat during the day in nativity, and folding in, like hands in prayer, at night
